Recording fees are going up as of July 1, 2020

Among the new laws that will begin on July 1, 2020, recording fees are also going up. Double check your calculations, the following changes in fees will begin Wednesday!

  • Library of Virginia Fee will be increasing by $2.00. The fee will go from $1.50 to $3.50 (applies to all documents and plats pursuant to VA Code Section 17.1-275)
  • Open Space Preservation Fee will be increasing by $2.00. The fee will go from $1.00 to $3.00 (applies to all documents and plats pursuant to VA Code Section 58.1-812, 58.1-817)
  • Hampton Roads Regional Transportation Improvement Fee will be assessed at $.06 per $100.00 on all documents conveying/transferring real property (Pursuant to VA Code Section(s) 33.2-2605, 58.1-811, 58.1-816, 58.1-1743, 33.2-2600.1, 58.1-802.5)

Please visit the deed calculation page on the Supreme Court website (www.vacourts.gov) to confirm the changes that pertain to the jurisdiction you will be recording in. If you have any questions or concerns, contact your underwriter, attorney or clerk.
